Sydney Environment Institute 2017
The Sydney Environment Institute and Sydney Ideas have been hosting some amazing events recently. On March 31st they were joined by Greenpeace Australia Pacific for a panel discussion between some of the most distinguished academics and environmental activists about the future of The Great Barrier Reef, in the wake of this unprecedented second consecutive year of mass coral bleaching. The panel included Professor Terry Hughes (Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies), David Ritter (Chief Executive Officer of Greenpeace Australia Pacific), Professor Maria Byrne (Professor of Marine Biology at the University of Sydney), Professor Iain McCalman (Research Professor of History at the University of Sydney, and Co-Director of the Sydney Environment Institute).
A recording of the lecture is available from the SEI Soundcloud page. Most of their excellent public lectures and some conference materials are available to listen for free. They don't shy away from addressing issues of indigenous rights, political corruption, the role of the academy in environmental activism. If you can attend any of their events in person, even better. https://soundcloud.com/sydneyenvironmentinstitute
