Man Ray // Emak Bakia (1926)
I recently tripped across this silent black and white cinépoéme by Man Ray with a score reconstructed by Jacques Guillot.
During the twenties, Ray lived in Montparnasse, Paris, and was a friend to Picasso, Duchamp, Miró, Dalí, Stein and Joyce. His work spans surrealism to post-Cubist Dadaism.
‘Emak Bakia’ is Basque for ‘leave me alone’, or, ‘give peace’, depending on the translation.
